DORCAS HOUSE

By Lorinda Robinson

Dorcas House is a home and vocational/spiritual training center for girls at risk. This is its first year of ministry, and there are 15 girls, two of whom have infants. This center was born out of the vision of the Burkina Faso Alliance Women’s Ministry to reach into the lives of young ladies who have gotten off track or are at risk of doing so.

I recently taught a series of lessons on Creation, the Fall, the sacrifice of the Lamb and the shedding of blood for the forgiveness of sins. I included Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his only son in obedience to God and God’s provision of a ram. The lessons were going well, and the girls were engaged and eager to listen. But the fifth week of classes was a different story. That week, as I talked about the birth of Christ, a cloud of heaviness settled over the classroom. I was discouraged the entire time I was teaching. I knew it was a spiritual battle. All week, the other missionaries and I prayed that the Holy Spirit would speak to the girls.

When I woke up at 5:15 Monday morning, I felt like God was going to do something, and I prayed again for the girls. The lesson was on the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ and God’s offer of salvation, and I could feel a total change in the “atmosphere” from the previous week. I felt freedom. The class was attentive. After the lesson, I invited any of the girls who wanted to make a decision to follow Christ to see me after the closing prayer. What a joy it was for me to lead seven to Christ and to pray with one who wanted to rededicate her life to Him!

Please pray for the staff and other teachers who will be doing the next series of lessons as they seek to disciple these young ladies. Pray that they will be faithful and grow in Christ.
