New York State Board of Regents Approves
Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Nyack College

The New York State Board of Regents granted Nyack College approval in January to offer the bachelor of science in nursing degree, which will launch in fall 2010 on the Rockland County, N.Y., campus.

“There are documents going back 50 years showing that a nursing program was in discussion. In the entire history of this institution, this is our first health professional degree!” says Dr. Michael G. Scales, Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary president.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, our nation is on the brink of a predicted shortage in nurses and the need for thousands of new nurses by 2012. This industry deficit is attributed to current registered nurses reaching retirement age and aging Baby Boomers with an increased need for health care and providers.
